The Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA) is proud to announce a major step forward in its commitment to sustainability and cost efficiency. A new 1.8 million-watt solar panel array is now fully operational at our wastewater treatment plant in Camden City—marking the first phase of our long-term green energy initiative.
In partnership with Heliosage, CCMUA has entered into a 15-year power purchase agreement that allows us to benefit from clean, renewable energy without incurring upfront capital or maintenance costs. Under this agreement, Heliosage will design, install, own, and operate the solar panel system, while CCMUA simply pays a reduced power bill—below prevailing utility rates.
This solar array now supplies approximately 10% of the plant’s total energy needs, translating into projected savings of $300,000 in the first year alone. Over the life of the agreement, we anticipate saving nearly $7 million in energy costs.
This installation is just the beginning. CCMUA’s ultimate goal is to transition to 100% green energy within the next five years. By investing in renewable infrastructure today, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint—we’re also building a more resilient and cost-effective future for Camden residents.
